Welcome to Friday, one of my favorite days of the week!
This week has been a long one for me and I cannot wait to enjoy the little things all weekend long. I have a few things scheduled—starting a baking project for my favorite Kappa chapter women (recipe next week!), having dinner with my aunt, a few good workouts and finishing off a book I have been reading. None of these things are off the charts fantastic but each brings me a special kind of joy. I can’t wait!
What are the little things you will enjoy this weekend?
I love to bake. Love Love Love to bake. I remember asking my mom for an easy bake oven in kindergarten and being taught how to bake with a real oven instead. I have never looked back.
I love to bake things from scratch, leaving the boxed mixes behind (I’m fairly certain that my great grandmother would come back to haunt me if I didn’t!) and using my favorite tried and true recipes to bring a little bit of joy to those around me.
I baked a batch of my “famous” brownies this week for a work holiday lunch and wanted to share a few snapshots of my favorite past time. These brownies are aptly named “Disgustingly Rich Brownies” and come from my first cook book, “Kids Can Cook, Too!”—they are rich, moist and super dense—a total crowd pleaser.
I can’t wait to tackle some more treats this weekend; I am even going to try my hand at candy making!
I have been under the weather for a solid two weeks now and I have not been the best patient. I have been cranky, tired and constantly on the brink of frustrated tears. However, through all the cold medicine, antibiotics and green tea, I have been reminded of how lucky I am.
I have the best sort of people in my life. They are warm, encouraging and supportive. They are willing to spend time just sitting with me, watching silly movies and letting me nap when I can’t keep my eyes open any longer. They call just to see how I’m feeling and ask to be updated when I wake up in the morning. They bring me (their own) juice in the morning so I can regulate my blood sugar and make it into work when I’m as white as a ghost. They are truly remarkable.
So, dear friends and family, thank you. Thank you for making sure I am okay and listening to me cry when I’m not. Thank you for encouraging me to take it easy and not worry about not accomplishing things on my to-do list. And thank you for caring. I cannot tell you how much it means to me.
Happy Birthday, Dad!
I can honestly say that I hit the jackpot with parents. My dad is fantastic. He is the best at hugs, loves to try new beers with me, enjoys a great discussion of history, and will make you feel 100% better when you’re down. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful man in my life—I have no idea where I would be without you, Daddy!
How are we celebrating Mike’s big 5-9? We are headed to a beer tasting, of course!
Last month, I was lucky enough to go on a fantastic vacation to the Eastern Carribbean with my family. I know I promised to share some photos so here they are! I cannot wait to go back and explore more of these islands.
What has been your favorite vacation?

My weekend in a nutshell. Lots of people who make me happy!
Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people - your family, friends, and coworkers, and even strangers you meet along the way.

Looking at this image and reading the words included remind me of my family through and through. I try to get a long sleep and a good laugh each day.
How do you cure your blues?
10 days.
In just 10 days I will be winging my way south (with my mom—dad will meet us there!) to sunny Florida to watch my sister Lauren’s dance team compete in the UDA National Championships. Lauren coaches a middle school dance team and wowza—they are good!
There are several reasons why this short trip will be fantastic and they are listed in no particular order:
Family time. Sister time. A touch of Disney Magic. Great meals. Sun. Sandals. Airplane.
I cannot wait to spend some time with my family at one of our favorite places!
10 days.
I found these cookies on the blog Delightful Bitefuls and cannot wait to make them with my sister, Lauren, when she is home for Thanksgiving. I think its a perfect combination of her favorite things: peanut butter, nutella and time with her big sister!
(I’m shameless—but I really cannot wait to see her!)
